You need to install an OS that supports Raspberry Pi 5. Please use the latest Raspberry Pi Imager tool for system installation. The currently tested systems are:

Raspberry Pi OS (Bookworm 64 desktop/lite): Fully compatible.

Ubuntu Desktop 23.10: No SPI, causing the LEDs NOT to light up.

Kali: No I2C, causing the OLED screen to NOT light up.

Home Assistant: CANNOT enable I2C or SPI functions.

Known Incompatible NVMe SSD

We recommend avoiding the following NVMe drives which are equipped with a Phison controller due to their proven incompatibility:

Western Digital Green SN350 series, Western Digital Black SN850 series, Western Digital Black SN770, Inland tn446 nvme drive, Corsair MP600 SSD, Samsung PM991, Kingston OM8SEP4256Q-A0, Transcend 110Q (TS500GMTE110Q), SN350 and SN570 prevented the RPi 5 from booting at all especially. Other NVMe SSD drivers equipped with the same Phison controller
